About Jamie Boorman

I’m Jamie Boorman, and I’m currently working as a Makerspace Specialist with Wellington City Libraries. I’ve been part of the library world for over 20 years, and my role now is all about helping people turn ideas into something real. Most days you’ll find me in the makerspace working with 3D printers, laser cutters, electronics, or whatever tool someone needs to bring a project to life. I enjoy that moment when something clicks for someone, when an idea goes from “maybe” to something they can actually hold in their hands.

I’ve always believed that learning works best when you just give things a go. You don’t need to be an expert to start, you just need a bit of curiosity and the willingness to try. Makerspaces are great for that. They’re places where people can experiment, make mistakes, figure things out, and build confidence along the way. My job is really just to support that process and make it feel approachable for everyone.

I’ve known Cyrus for about five years now, and over that time I’ve seen firsthand the effort, creativity, and determination he’s put into building Dahl Designs. It’s been impressive to watch it grow from ideas into real, useful products that help people. I’m genuinely happy to stand alongside him and support what he’s doing. There’s a shared mindset there, focusing on practical solutions, creativity, and making things that actually make a difference.

For me, it all comes back to people. Whether it’s in the library or working alongside Cyrus, it’s about helping others create, solve problems, and feel confident in what they can do. That’s what keeps me passionate about this work.
