How We Price Our 3D Prints at dahl designs

A behind-the-scenes look at what goes into your quote

At dahl designs, we believe in being open and fair with our pricing. If you’ve ever wondered why something costs what it does, here’s a simple breakdown of what goes into each quote.

1. Filament Used – $1 per metre

We charge $1 per metre of filament used. That’s the plastic material that gets melted and layered into your item.

A small clip might only use 3 to 5 metres

A larger bracket or holder could use 10 to 30 metres or more

The final amount depends on size, shape, infill settings, and support material.

2. Design Time – $15 per hour

If you want something custom, we charge $15 per hour for design time.

This covers things like:

Turning your idea or sketch into a 3D model

Making sure it will print correctly and fit properly

Testing and adjusting the design before the final print

Some simple tweaks take just a few minutes. A full new product might take 1 to 2 hours or more.

3. Print Time

We don’t charge by the hour for printing, but longer prints use more filament and slowly wear down our printer. Our pricing reflects this naturally, especially in bigger or more complex jobs.

4. Precision and Quality

We print at a 0.4 mm tolerance, which means everything fits together neatly and accurately.

All our products are tested for real-life use, especially for waka ama and dragonboat environments where strength and reliability matter.

5. Communication and Quotes

Our process is simple:

You send us your idea, and we’ll reply with a custom quote and a secure online payment link.

We use Stripe — a trusted global platform that powers payments for companies like Shopify and Xero.

6. Returns Policy

Because everything is made-to-order, we unfortunately don’t offer refunds. If something’s not working the way you expected, get in touch — we’ll do our best to help.

In Summary

$15 per hour of design

Clear communication and strong, functional products

We want you to feel confident that your money is going toward something useful, durable, and made with care.
